In 1985 the debate in the Diet centred on the flight path data captured by the Air Self-Defence Force at radar sites in Wakkanai and elsewhere on the day of the shooting down, with opposition lawmakers demanding detailed disclosure and the government refusing to do so.
In particular, opposition lawmakers commented on the radar trail of Korean Air Flight 007 over Sakhalin.
They repeatedly demanded that the information be made public, using different methods and products. The Defense Agency’s response to this was very cautious. Finally the Diet deliberations from February to October, the Defence Agency revealed some new facts regarding course and altitude of KE-007 and produced this map and altitude.

It is seen that what is reported to be KAL-007 makes a course correction at 3:23 prior to being struck by a missile. This eliminates the “innocent” stray story. In addition, KAL-007 asked Tokyo Air traffic control for clearance to climb to 35,000ft. However the radar trace clearly shows altitude dropping and then climbing. Certainly not the actions of an innocent airliner astray.
